Apple (AAPL) is likely to keep the smartphone market share it took from Samsung in the past year thanks to Apple's sticky ecosystem and excitement for its upcoming iPhone 8, Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley said in a report Friday.

Walkley reiterated his buy rating on Apple stock and raised his price target to 165 from 154.

Apple shares closed down 0.2% at 143.66 on the stock market today. The stock hit an all-time high of 144.50 on Thursday, its third record high in three days. Apple is a component of the Dow Jones industrial average.

Walkley made his bullish call on Apple two days after rival Samsung unveiled its next generation smartphone, the Galaxy S8.

“Given our expectations for compelling new features and form factors for the iPhone 8 products, we are raising our estimates,” Walkley said. He expects the new handsets to lead to stronger upgrade sales to the loyal iPhone customer base.

How to set up your iPhone for Wi-Fi calling

Todd Haselton | CNBC

If you're tired of dropped calls at home or the office, it's time to take advantage of your iPhone's Wi-Fi calling feature.
Wi-Fi calling is supported by Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint in the U.S. It's a useful feature for a couple of reasons. First, it'll allow you to place clear phone calls even if you don't have a good cell connection at home or in the office. Maybe you want to chat on the phone while doing laundry in the basement where you have Wi-Fi but no cell connection, for example. Second, it's useful for when you travel abroad, since calls over Wi-Fi won't cost you a dime.
Setting up Wi-Fi calling is a breeze, and you can just set it and forget it in seconds. Here's how.

Bernstein analyst: iPhone 8 cycle will be significant, upward revisions likely
Tuesday, 21 Mar 2017 | 12:23 PM ET | 04:46

Taiwan's Foxconn, the world's largest contract electronics maker and a key Apple Inc supplier, on Friday reported 30 percent growth in fourth quarter net profit from a year ago, defying expectations for a decline.

That profit gain came despite revenue falling last year by 2.8 percent, the first decline since the company listed shares on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1991, according to company information.

The profit was likely to have been boosted by solid bookings for Apple's bigger-sized iPhone 7 models, which Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co assembles, analysts said.

Net profit in the final three months of 2016 ended four quarters of year-on-year declines to..

Some Wall Street analysts have commented that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is revising iPhone 8 build reductions lower.

According to BlueFin Research Partners' John Donovan and Steve Mullane, however, there's no evidence of this.

Donovan and Mullane commented in a report that the iPhone 8 build hasn't even started yet and demand for the iPhone 7 remains “vibrant.” As such, it remains “puzzling” why some analysts are expressing concern over a lower build figure.

“Even the 'rumored 100M build' number was odd as if it were solely iPhone 8 totals, they are as much as 30 percent HIGHER than what w..

Analysts are highly optimistic about the next iPhone, which is expected to be a radical reset of the entire line.
It's the 10th anniversary of the device, so there's a huge amount riding on it.
It may cost £1,000 in the UK and $1,000 in the US — sums many shoppers would balk at.
These are significant challenges Apple needs to overcome.

Apple is gearing up to launch what may well be the most hotly anticipated smartphone ever.

2017 is the 10th anniversary of the unveiling of the original iPhone. Smartphones and mobile apps have since transformed business and the global economy — propelling Apple to become the world's most valuable company.

The iPhone 8 might have a radar-like, new home button

The iPhone 8 is coming this year, and it’s got the toughest competition we’ve probably ever seen in the smartphone market. Earlier this week, Samsung released the Galaxy S8 and it’s by far the best smartphone you can buy right now. In addition to an edge-to-edge screen, the Galaxy S8 also does away with buttons completely, relegating the fingerprint sensor to the back of the handset. New reports suggest Apple will follow the buttonless concept for the iPhone 8, but will introduce new technology to keep Touch ID on the front of the phone.

According to a patent spotted by 9to5mac Apple will replace Touch ID with a new ultrasonic sensor, and it seems like a great idea. In the patent notes, Apple says the ultrasonic sensor will hold two main advantages over Touch ID.
