Home AppsApps News Sanket Vijayasarathy, 20 September 2017 Highlights Apple has increased app download limit to 150MB on cellular network
The previous limit was 100MB
This will allow users to download more apps on cellular connectivity Apple released iOS 11 on Tuesday, and it is being called one of the biggest updates to iOS in a long while. iOS 11 brings a host of new features like a brand new Control Center, a new file manager app, new layout to the App Store, among other things. While these are surface level updates, Apple has always introduced tweaks that are hidden for users to discover as they work on the new OS. One such tweak discovered lies within the redesigned App Store. Apple has now increased the limit of the size of apps that can be downloaded over cellular connections.
Users can now download apps as big as 150MB in size using cellular data. Post the limit, Apple will notify you to use a Wi-Fi network for downloading. Apple says this will let “customers download more apps from the App Store over their cellular network.” This is the first time since 2013 that Apple has increased the size limit for apps that can be downloaded over cellular data. Before iOS 11, the limit was 100MB that was introduced with iOS 7.
While Apple hasn't provided a reason behind the new limit, the move is likely in response to how apps in the App Store have grown in size over the recent years. Most of the apps including today's essential ones like Facebook, Twitter, Uber are over 100MB in size, and while users often tend to wait for Wi-Fi connectivity to download apps, that's not always the case. Another reason could be that cellular data rates have reduced in recent times with operators, especially in India, offering more data at cheaper prices. This allows users to spend cellular data a lot more without an accompanying pinch in the wallet.
Android users have the ability to download large apps over cellular data without restriction, but Apple does not let you bypass the notification, perhaps because it doesn't want users to download large apps unknowingly and risk high data charges. iOS 11 is now available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users around the world. You can find out if your device is eligible for the update right here.

How to Get Started With Files App on iOS 11

0

Home MobilesMobiles Features Pranay Parab , 20 September 2017 Highlights iOS 11 has one app to manage files across your apps.
It's not a Finder replacement just yet
The app aggregates apps such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, etc. The Files app is one of the most significant changes in iOS 11. The iCloud Drive app no longer exists and instead we have an app called Files. With this, all of your files will be in one place — files from cloud storage apps such as Dropbox, and from other apps that expose documents such as PDF Expert 6, and even files on your local device. This provides a convenient way to manage all your files in one place and it works on both iPhone and iPad.
How to Download and Install iOS 11 on Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Files is still in early stages and if you are expecting a full-fledged file manager, you need to temper your expectations a little. At the moment, Files lets you access iCloud Drive and a local storage space called “On My iPhone” or “On My iPad” for files stored on your device. You can connect third-party services such as Dropbox to Files, but these open in a smaller pop-up screen and don’t take up the full screen. This lets you search through those files and copy them over to your local storage but it’s not an ideal solution for all your cloud storage services. You can’t select multiple files from Dropbox and copy them over to iCloud Drive, for example – you have to do this one by one.
20 Hidden iOS 11 Features You Need to Know About
Here’s what you need to do to get started with the Files app on iOS 11.
Open the Files app on your iOS device. If you are signed in to an iCloud account, you will see all your iCloud Drive files here. You need to install apps such as Dropbox, OneDrive, and Google Drive to access these services via Files. Once you install these apps, open Files and hit the Edit button at the top. Now toggle the switch next to each app whose files you want to see in the iOS 11 Files app. The switch turns green if it’s on.Now you will be able to see all of your files in one place. On our iPad, the Files app opened iCloud Drive files in the right pane, but all other apps opened in a pop-up. Files app lets you search for files inside other services such as Dropbox, but you can’t add tags to them, mark them as favourite, or add other metadata.

iOS 11 Is Out, Here's How to Check if All Your Apps Will Work
You can however save files from these other apps to iCloud Drive, or to your iPhone or iPad. From there, you can mark a file as favourite, add various coloured tags, and so on. The Files app can also open certain file types such as jpg and mp3, and if it can’t open a file you can always export the file to an app that can. If you save files locally on your iPhone or iPad, you can export them to other apps – so text documents could be sent to apps such as Ulysses or Microsoft Word, for example. Apps can't use Files to “share” documents with each other though, unlike with iCloud, where multiple apps can be used to edit the same file – here, you'll get a fresh copy of the document for the app it's been shared with.
iOS 11 Brings Improved Dock and Multitasking to iPad: How to Get Started
In case you have installed apps that show up in Files, but are not signed in to those services, you can easily do that via Files. There’s no need to leave the app to sign in to Dropbox or Google Drive.
Can I create new folders inside Files?
At the moment, you can do that in iCloud Drive, but not on its local storage. We’re hoping that future updates will allow people to create folders in the “On My iPhone” or “On My iPad” folder.
Can I plug in a Lightning port-based pen drive and open it in Files?
No, at the moment you can’t do that. Lots of people have tried but the pen drive doesn’t show up in the Files app.
Can I open documents, music and movies, in Files?
You can open and view common file formats such as PDF, doc, and Excel spreadsheets. Not all Word and Excel formats are supported though, so you might have to open new XLSX files in Microsoft Excel for iOS. Files plays quite a few audio and video file formats including mp3 and mov, but not all file formats are supported. You can always tap the share button and open these files via other apps.
The Files app lets you quickly access files saved in multiple locations, but this is the first version of the app and it is quite limited in many ways. You can’t yet access files from your Dropbox folder the way you can access iCloud Drive files, and it’s not yet a central location for you to store all downloaded documents.

JioFi Price Dropped to Rs. 999 in 'Festive Celebration Offer': Details

0

Home InternetInternet News Gadgets 360 Staff, 20 September 2017 Highlights The JioFi 4G hotspot is now retailing at Rs. 999
It is normally priced at Rs. 1,999
The limited period discount is valid until September 30 Reliance Jio has announced a limited period discount on its 4G hotspot hub, the JioFi, in light of the festive season. Normally priced at Rs. 1,999, the JioFi price in India from Wednesday, September 20 to Saturday, September 30 will be Rs. 999. The offer is valid on both online and offline stores, with the new price already reflecting on the Jio.com site and Flipkart – which is also currently hosting its Big Billion Days sale.
Called the JioFi Festive Celebration Offer, it is only valid on the JioFi M2S model, which sports a 2300mAh battery. A Jio SIM card will be bundled, and needs to be activated with an Aadhaar card at the time of delivery. A SIM card is required to use the device, as well as a tariff plan from Jio. Users will also be able make and receive phones calls via the Jio4GVoice app, apart from text messages.
This is one of numerous 'festive' offers currently running from a device manufacturer, apart from the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale, Amazon Great Indian Festival sale, and the Paytm Mall Mera Cashback sale.
The latest Indian data card market share report by CyberMedia Research highlighted JioFi's dominant position, with a market share of 91 percent. JioFi, and other MiFi devices are increasingly finding their way to tier-2 and tier-3 cities, resulting in the erosion of Wi-Fi router sales and broadband services in those areas, the report adds.
Reliance Jio has been aggressively pushing the sales of its JioFi 4G hotspot, with an enticing 224GB data plan in July, and a 100 percent cashback offer in May.

Home TabletsTablets Features Pranay Parab , 20 September 2017 Highlights iOS 11 lets you open any two apps side-by-side
These apps are grouped, you can quickly switch between them
The Dock has received a complete makeover too iOS 11 brings in lots of productivity oriented tweaks and the multitasking related features are chief among these. Apple has made it much easier to multitask on an iPad with iOS 11, and it has revamped the Dock to make it easier to access your favourite apps faster. You can now do things such as drag multiple pictures out of your photo album to the Messages app open side-by-side with Photos. If you have an iPad and would like to get started with multitasking on iOS 11, read on.
The New Dock on iOS 11The iPad in particular has received several new features via iOS 11 and one of the best of these is the new Dock. For those who don’t know, the Dock is the strip at the bottom of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Apps you drag there will show up on all of your iOS device’s home screens, which means it’s a great place to house apps you use frequently.
How to Download and Install iOS 11 on Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
The iOS Dock used to allow you to add four or six apps depending on your device. With iOS 11 and an iPad Pro 10.5-inch, you can add a whopping 13 apps to the dock (15 on iPad Pro 12.9-inch) and iOS places three more apps as intelligent suggestions based on your usage. All you need to do is start dragging your favourite apps to the dock to add them. The Dock has become a lot more useful too, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
Multitasking on iOS 11iOS has slowly been moving towards Mac-like productivity and iOS 11 is a big step in that direction. The iPad gets much improved multitasking with iOS 11 and here’s how you can make access the new app switcher.
Unlock the iPad to open the home screen. Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen. This gesture shows the revamped app switcher on iOS 11. You can also double tap the home button to achieve this, but the swipe upwards gesture is much simpler. The customisable Control Centre is on the right of the app switcher. To change the toggles in the Control Centre, head to Settings > Control Centre > Customise Controls. In the app switcher, you can swipe right to see the long list of open apps, which are now arranged in two neat rows. This means you need to swipe a lot less to see all open apps.20 Hidden iOS 11 Features You Need to Know About
How to open two apps at once in iOS 11
One of the cool multitasking features in iOS 11 is that you can open two different apps at the same time to improve your productivity. For instance, you could open a browser and a writing app at the same time to quickly look up information online while writing. Here’s how you can do this.
Move the two apps you want to open simultaneously to the Dock in iOS 11. Open any of the two apps. Now swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen. This will reveal the Dock. Tap and hold and drag the second app from the Dock. You’ll notice a translucent background appearing under the app icon. Drag the app icon to the left or the right side of the screen. Now both apps will be running simultaneously. In this view you can drag pictures or other files from one app to another. The steps above will make the second app “float” above the first. This could hide a part of one of the apps. To avoid this, tap and hold and drag down the small, horizontal white line at the top of the “floating” app. Release this when you see a vertical border appear on the app being hidden. Now the two apps will be open side by side. You will notice a thin vertical boundary between the apps. You can drag this to the left or right in case you want the other app to take up more space on screen.11 Best Features of iOS 11
Apps running side by side are grouped in the app switcher, which is a neat touch. You can group various apps in sets of two and switch between those to improve your productivity. For example, you could group YouTube and Notes, Netflix and IMDB, Fantastical and Mail, and so on. This way you could quickly switch between taking notes from a video to sending them across via email while checking if you have any upcoming meetings. You can even open a third app while two are open side by side, but that obscures a big part of one of those apps.
Drag and dropiOS 11 allows you to drag and drop multiple items at once. This means that you can select multiple photos and send them to Notes simply by dragging and dropping. The drag and drop feature supports multiple fingers so you can drag multiple photos out, drop them inside Notes, pull up the dock, open a third app and send in more photos there. Yes, you can use multiple fingers and get work done faster. Here’s how to use this feature.
Open Photos and Notes app side by side. You can do this with various other apps such as Notes and Messages, or Mail and Photos. Select one photo and hold it, and then tap other photos one by one while holding the first photo. This will select multiple photos and you’ll see a number indicating how many photos you’ve selected. Now drag and drop these into Notes. All those photos will embed themselves into your note.iOS 11 Is Out, Here's How to Check if All Your Apps Will Work
This feature works just as well with other apps such as Mail and Messages. You can even use this to select multiple apps on your homescreen and drop them into a new folder.

Home WearablesWearables News Gadgets 360 Staff, 20 September 2017 Highlights Amazon could be working on a smart wearable device
It could feature Alexa for AI-based interaction with users
It might look like Google Glass, which was re-launched this year Amazon.com Inc is working on its first wearable device – a pair of 'smart glasses', the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.
The device, designed like a regular pair of spectacles, will allow Amazon's digital assistant Alexa to be summoned anytime at all places, the report said, citing people familiar with the plans.
There would be a bone-conduction audio system in the device to allow the wearer to hear Alexa without inserting headphones into his or her ears, according to the report.
Amazon was not immediately available to comment on the report outside regular business hours.
Last month, Amazon and Microsoft announced a partnership to make their respective virtual assistants, Alexa and Cortana, work together. The two AI-based assistants will now be able to work with each other on a variety of devices, the companies said. Example of the fruits of the Amazon-Microsoft partnership include the ability of Alexa to be able to work with Office products, and how Cortana users could use Alexa to shop on Amazon.com and manage their orders. Amazon is open to the idea of opening Alexa to other competing AI assistants, though it has so far only approached Microsoft, CEO Jeff Bezos said.
Earlier this year, Alphabet re-introduced its own wearable glass headset, Google Glass, after discontinuing its production last year. The latest edition of the Glass augmented reality wearable is meant for enterprises.
Starting from $1,829 (roughly Rs. 1,16,000), the new Google Glass wearable is lighter and more comfortable to wear for long durations. It also features better battery life and more power.

Pixel 2 XL
Highlights The Pixel 2 smartphones are expected to launch on October 4
Pixel 2 XL has been tipped to be made by LG
The new renders show two colour variants of the smartphone Google recently teased the October 4 launch of its next generation of Pixel smartphones. However, as we approach the launch date, new renders of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, which are tipped to be manufactured by HTC and LG respectively, have been leaked on the Internet. Further, the pricing of the regular variant has been said to start from $649 and for larger variant from $849 (roughly Rs. 54,600).
The newly leaked renders of the Pixel 2 XL, shared by Droid Life, show the alleged handset from the rear end and also reveal the colour variants that might be offered with the smartphone. In the shared images, we can see a Black and another White/Black option of the smartphone with the latter variant having the top portion as black and bottom portion coloured white.
Interestingly, the power button on the White variant seems to be coloured in some form of orange colour. As you can see from the images, the design on the Pixel 2 XL is quite reminiscent of the last generation model of the smartphone. However, just like the render that was leaked back in July, the new images also suggest that the Pixel 2 XL will not feature a dual camera setup like most flagships this year but will sport a single camera sensor at the back.

Alleged Pixel 2 Variants

The Pixel 2 renders, also shared by Droid Life, show the alleged handset in colour variants: Black, White, and Kinda Blue. The rear-end design on both Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is nearly identical.
Moving on to the leaked pricing, the Droid Life reports suggest that the 64GB storage variant of the Pixel 2 XL smartphone will be priced by the company at $849 while the 128GB storage variant will set back customers by $949 (roughly Rs. 61,000). The Pixel 2 is also expected to be offered with 64GB and 128GB storage capacities at $649 (roughly Rs. 41,800) and $749 (roughly Rs. 48,200) respectively.
To recall, the Pixel 2 XL is expected to feature a 6-inch near bezel-less display and while the smartphone is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC. On the other hand, the Pixel 2 smartphone, which has been tipped to be made by HTC, is expected to offer a squeezable frame just like the HTC U11.
As these are leaks, we will advise you to take them with a pinch of salt and wait for the official confirmation from Google itself.

Home AppsApps News Sanket Vijayasarathy, 20 September 2017 Highlights Safari 11 will stop audio from autoplaying on most websites
Update also improves AutoFill accuracy from Contacts cards
Enhances performance and efficiency Alongside the general availability of iOS 11 on Tuesday, Apple has also updated its Safari browser for macOS users. The new Safari v11.0 update is now available for users running on macOS Sierra and macOS X El Capitan. The update brings a few new improvements and performance enhancements, but the most notable and welcome new feature is that Safari will now stop audio from playing automatically on most sites.
The update to Safari comes just days before Apple releases the next big update for macOS devices – macOS High Sierra. Apple's Web browser now promises to stop media with audio from playing automatically when visiting most websites, according to the Safari 11 description on the Mac App Store. Apple had first announced this at WWDC when it unveiled High Sierra. Users will no doubt appreciate this feature as they would have experienced instances wherein some audio starts playing in one of the many tabs opened, making it annoying and cumbersome to find out where the audio is coming from.
Apart from this, Safari 11 will now give you the option to configure Reader, content blockers, page zoom, auto-play settings for individual websites, or for all websites. The update also improves AutoFill accuracy from Contacts cards, which means you're likely to find it easier now filling out payment details when purchasing products, or when filling out personal forms. Additionally, Safari 11 also includes updated media controls for HTML video and audio, as well as some enhancements to performance and efficiency.
Safari 11 is already available for users who have updated their iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices to iOS 11. Mac users on macOS 10.13, macOS 10.12.6, and 10.11.6, are eligible for Safari 11 and can get the update via the Mac App Store. Apple will release macOS High Sierra on September 25 for users running on macOS Sierra. The new OS update brings a new Apple File System (APFS), external GPU and VR support, and High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) support, and a faster Safari experience among other things. There's also improvements made to the Photos app, FaceTime, Notes, Mail, and iCloud.
