AppleCould an ‘Evil Twin’ Trick Your iPhone’s Facial Recognition?Aric JenkinsSep 13, 2017The iPhone X made its highly-anticipated debut Tuesday at Apple's keynote event and one of its standout features is what the company calls Face ID. Gone is the fingerprint-required Touch ID, and in is a facial recognition software that allows users to unlock the phone, authenticate downloads and make purchases with Apple Pay. Naturally, the question on everyone's mind is: can this technology be hacked?
Apple insists Face ID, which maps its user's mug with 30,000 invisible dots within its so-called TrueDepth camera, is secure and stores data locally on the phone — which should prevent hackers from being able to breach information from a larger database. But what if it wasn't a remote cybercriminal trying to access your phone from a distance but rather someone much closer like, say, a family member? Like a twin.
“Could an identical twin trick the machine? I suppose the answer is y..

There’s one big question on everyone’s minds regarding the iPhone X: is it really worth $1,000? Well, be thankful you’re not asking this in Russia, otherwise it would be: is it really worth $1,380?

Thanks to the usual combination of currency valuations, import fees, and local sales taxes, the most expensive iPhone ever will be even more expensive around the world. And, using this ranking from Deutsche Bank of the most expensive countries to buy the iPhone 7, we can find out where. (Although, remember: US prices don’t include state taxes, which add around 5 to 9 percent to the cost.)

Unfortunately, prices for the top two places on Deutsche’s list — Turkey and Brazil — aren’t yet available on their local Apple Stores. However, given that the iPhone 7 with 128GB memory cost $1,200 in Turkey (that’s a 147 percent markup of the original), we can estimate that the iPhone X with 64GB memory will be around $1,468, while the 256GB option coming in at r..

Home MobilesMobiles Features Hayley Tsukayama, The Washington Post, 13 September 2017 Highlights Apple announced three iPhone models at the event
It also unveiled an Apple Watch with cellular connectivity
The company launched the much requested Apple TV 4K too The crowd at Apple's new “spaceship” headquarters saw new smartphones – including a premium version priced at $999 (priced at Rs. 89,000 in India) – as the company commemorated its 10th anniversary of the iPhone.
Apple opened the event asking the audience to cover their screens as an audio clip of Steve Jobs played. Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, said that it was fitting that Jobs opened the theater – named after him – where the event is taking place.
“His greatest expression of his appreciation for humanity would not be a singular product, but rather it would be Apple itself,” he said.
The bar is very high for Apple. Most of its revenue is generated through the smartphone. Cook promised that the company's new phones would make a splash by defining the future of the smartphone.
iPhone 8, iPhone 8 PlusAbout midway through Apple's event, Apple's head of marketing Phil Schiller showed off the upgrades to the main iPhone line. Clad in an aluminium and glass skin that comes in Silver, Space Gray, and Gold, the new devices are speedier with sharper screens and better battery efficiency. The phones will also accommodate wireless charging. Schiller said chargers will be made by third-party vendors and appear at partner coffee shops and retail stores, as well as some new cars.
The new smartphones have revamped cameras that will use a feature called “portrait lighting” that will automatically optimise the lighting in your photos. The cameras also have substantially improved slo-mo video recording.
Schiller took some time to tout the smartphones' ability to do more in augmented reality — which is expected to be a key area of growth for video games and other software apps. An app from Major League Baseball, for example, will display live stats over players when users look at the field through their iPhone screens.
Apple is bumping up the base storage of an iPhone 8 to 64GB at a price of $699. The larger iPhone 8 Plus will start at $799. Both will be available for order on September 15 and ship on September 22.
The iPhone XAfter the iPhone 8 presentation, Cook retook the stage to offer, in Jobs's iconic words, “one more thing” – the iPhone X.
The phone, he said, was the “biggest leap since the original iPhone.” (The company is pronouncing it the iPhone ten).
The iPhone X will start at $999 – considerably more than the base price of previous models. It will be available for pre-order on October 27, and ship on November 3.
The iPhone X has an advanced array of cameras for facial recognition, which allows the phone to become unlocked just by looking at it. The cameras can learn a user's face and note gradual changes. And it can be used at night or day.

But Apple promised that it would not collect the data on all of those faces. The information would only be kept on the smartphone, not sent to Apple servers.
The facial recognition technology has other applications as well. Apple introduced “animoji” – animated emoji that imitates your facial movements and lets you record animated messages through texts.
The new high-end smartphone has a 5.8 inch display that covers the entire surface of the phone. Unlike its cheaper sibling, the iPhone 10 comes in space grey and silver and sports a “super” retina display, which Schiller said was much sharper than any other iPhone because it uses OLED display technology.
Notably, there also is no home button. Users must swipe and use gestures to close an app. Calling up Siri can now be done with a new side button.
The iPhone X boasts updated cameras as well, with the same features of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, as well as the capability to take better selfies. Battery life is two hours longer than the iPhone 7.
Like the new iPhone 8, the iPhone X can be charged wirelessly. Apple said next year, it will release a charger pad that can simultaneously recharge the iPhone 8, its new Apple Watch Series 3 and a new version of its earphones, called the AirPods.
Apple Watch Series 3 includes cellular serviceThe first product up for discussion was the Apple Watch. The new smartwatch – called the Apple Watch Series 3 – will have its own cellular connectivity, said Apple's chief operating officer, Jeff Williams, who is also in charge of Apple's Watch division. The Watch will be able to receive calls — using your iPhone's number – and can support apps including Maps and WeChat. The new Apple Watch will also be compatible with Apple Music, meaning you can use it as a music player on its own.
Williams said the new watch can play up to 40 million songs using Apple Music. Siri also gets a boost on the watch. Conversations with Apple's artificial intelligence can happen without even lifting an arm.
The Watch will have up to 18 hours of battery life across LTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Starting September 22, the cellular version of the Watch will go on sale for $399. Without cellular connection, it will cost $329 (Rs. 29,900 in India). The Series 1 Apple Watch's price will drop to $249 (Rs. 21,900 in India).
The Apple Watch Series 3 will be available on September 22, with orders starting on September 15.
Apple TV 4KApple is making a big push to create its own shows and shore up its position in the living room. The Apple set-top box, Apple TV, is now going to support 4K HDR video the company said. The company is also adding live news and live sports sections to the Apple TV app.
The box itself is getting faster processors. The company showed how it could connect eight people online and have them play a video game together.
Versions of films and shows filmed in 4K will cost the same as HD videos on Apple's iTunes store. The new Apple TV 4K will go on sale September 15 and ship September 22. It will cost $179 (starts from Rs. 15,900 in India). While 4K adoption has been slow to get started, analysts say it's beginning to reach a tipping point.

Home MobilesMobiles News Manish Singh, 13 September 2017 iPhone X release date in India is November 3, with pre-orders starting on October 27
Highlights iPhone X price in India starts at Rs. 89,000
The iPhone X release date is November 3
Pre-orders will start from October 27 iPhone X was at the centre of the Apple launch event tonight as the company launched three iPhones at the same event for the first time. The new iPhone X is placed above the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and has several features that the other two models do not. The highlight, of course, is the bezel-less design, along with the Face ID facial recognition system. In fact, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor – a staple of the iPhones since the iPhone 5s – had to make way for the bezel-less design, thus Face ID is the only means of identity authentication. While iPhone 8 models will be available from September 22, those looking forward to the iPhone X release will have to wait till November.
iPhone X price in India, release dateiPhone X price in India is Rs. 89,000 for the variant with 64GB storage, and the 256GB model's price is Rs. 1,02,000. This makes the higher-end iPhone X the most expensive mainstream smartphone in the country, and the first such model to be priced above Rs. 1,00,000. Coming to the iPhone X release date in India, prospective buyers will have to wait till November 3; pre-orders in the country will start on October 27. This makes the iPhone X launch date in India part of the first phase rollout, which is interesting as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus India release is part of the second phase.

The iPhone X price in India is Rs. 89,000 for the 64GB variant and Rs. 1,02,000 for the 256GB model
If we talk about the iPhone X price in the US, Apple's home market, the 64GB and 256GB variants are priced at $999 (roughly Rs. 64,000) and $1,149 (roughly Rs. 73,600).
iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus Launched, Coming to India on September 29
iPhone X specifications, features
The first thing you notice on the iPhone X is a near bezel-less display on the front side. It is larger than ever at 5.8-inch. There is a notch on the top, but the company has pushed the screen resolution to 1125×2436 pixels, more than any previous generation iPhone models, and calls it the Super Retina HD Display.
The iPhone X is the future of smartphones, the executives said. Apple is doing away with the Touch ID, the fingerprint scanner embedded with Home Button that it introduced with iPhone 5s model. The iPhone X hosts a range of sensors including flood illuminator, infrared camera, front camera, and dot projector to allow customers to unlock the iPhone X by just looking at it – a system called Face ID.
Face ID is faster and more secure than the Touch ID, thanks to specialised hardware and algorithm driving that hardware. “The facial recognition grows with time. It learns your face and adapts to your face” Phil Schiller, Apple VP of Worldwide Marketing said. “It works in day, it works in night.” While Touch ID could be tricked one in 50,000 times, Apple said, Face ID sees one error in one million times, citing its own internal data. Face ID will work with third-party apps as well, Schiller said.

The new iPhone X Face ID facial recognition system replaces the Touch ID fingerprint scanner
The depth-gauging front camera can be used for another purpose, Schiller said. You can create animated emojis – called Animoji – that resemble your facial expressions. Users can make use of this feature in Messages. The company is also betting on augmented reality as a selling point in the iPhone X model.
The iPhone X features a duo of 12-megapixel rear cameras, that are larger (f/1.8 and f/2.4 apertures), and faster. It has deeper pixels, quad-LED True Tone flash, Schiller said. For the 7-megapixel selfie camera, the company says it is bringing Portrait mode feature, which it introduced with the iPhone 7 Plus last year.
In some ways, the company is testing the loyalty of its customers with the Rs. 89,000 price tag, more than it has ever asked before for its phone. Analysts however noted that the company might still be able to sell enough of these models. In a survey earlier this month by Creative Strategies and SurveyMonkey, 21 percent consumers said they would buy the costlier iPhone regardless of the price, though 33 percent existing iPhone users said they would not upgrade if it was too expensive.
“The most expensive iPhone model, an iPhone 7 Plus with 256GB storage, already costs USD 962 unlocked and SIM free. If Apple adds a new model which costs a few dollars more it will have no impact on consumers who are looking to spend $150. They are completely different market segments,” Ian Fogg, an analyst with IHS Markit told Gadgets 360.
“If the new flagship iPhone is genuinely different to other smartphones it will do two things for the mainstream India smartphone market: It will set a design theme which we will see other smartphone makers copy over the next few years, and eventually these design cues will be available in sub $150 smartphone models,” he said. The sub-Rs. 10,000 smartphone market is the most popular in India, according to data from several marketing research firms.
“And, it will act as a halo product to encourage consumers to buy Apple’s entry level smartphone models, currently the iPhone SE and iPhone 6, so consumers who are attracted to Apple’s brand pick the models they can afford,” Fogg added. “There will of course be some consumers in every country who are able to afford the most expensive iPhone whatever the cost. But Apple aims to create mainstream quality products, not a super niche luxury, not commodity products. A product which may fall into the luxury niche in India, could be a mainstream quality smartphone in Japan, USA, or parts of Western Europe.”

Home WearablesWearables News Manish Singh, 13 September 2017 Highlights Apple today unveiled the Apple Watch Series 3 smartwatch
The Apple Watch Series 3 offers the ability to make phone calls
But in India and many other markets, that feature won't be available The Apple Watch Series 3 that the iPhone-maker unveiled at Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Campus on Tuesday, is the most advanced smartwatch in the world, Apple CEO Tim Cook said. The top feature of the Apple Watch Series 3 is cellular connectivity, which enables users to make and receive phone calls. But if you're in India and planning to purchase the watch, you won't be getting that feature.
Apple Watch Series 3 variant coming to India and several other countries from September 29 won't have cellular connectivity feature. Instead, the company will be selling the GPS-only variant of the Apple Watch Series 3 in the country and elsewhere. The base price of Apple Watch Series 3 in India is Rs. 29,900.
The iPhone-maker didn't disclose why the Apple Watch Series 3 won't have cellular connectivity feature in India, but according to industry sources, the reason has everything to do with carriers in the country. Telecom operators in India, for instance, don't support the electronic SIM (eSIM) card technology as of yet, something Apple relies on the Apple Watch Series 3. According to Apple, in total 28 countries and territories will get the GPS-only Apple Watch Series 3 model – at least in the first wave. If and when telcos add this feature, you can expect the Apple Watch Series 3 cellular variant to launch in the country.
Company's executive on stage at the event said Apple Watch Series 3 features an eSIM card, instead of regular SIM cards that we use on our iPhone models and Android smartphones. This allows the Apple Watch Series 3 to retain the same phone number as the mobile phone number on the iPhone.
The Apple Watch Series 3 won't be the first smartwatch which would miss out on supporting cellular connectivity feature due the infrastructure limitation in India. Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear S2, a smartwatch that also lets customers make phone calls, without such capability in the country.

Home MobilesMobiles News Manish Singh, 13 September 2017 Highlights iPhone 8 price in India starts at Rs. 64,000
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus release date in India is September 29
Both models will be available in 64GB, 256GB storage variants iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are official now, even though the iPhone X is the new Apple flagship. At the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Campus on Tuesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook too the covers off the successors to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, featuring several new upgrades over last year's models. While the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 design follow the same design language as their predecessors, they sport a metal and glass bodies and now come in only two storage variants – 64GB and 256GB. They will go up for pre-orders in the US, the UK, China, Australia and 25 other countries on September 15, with shipping slated to begin on September 22. This is about a month before iPhone X goes on pre-orders.
iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus price in India, release dateThe iPhone 8 price in India for the 64GB variant is Rs. 64,000, while the 256GB model costs Rs. 77,000. Similarly, the iPhone 8 Plus price in India has been set as Rs. 73,000 for the base 64GB storage variant, while the model with 256GB storage is Rs. 86,000. The iPhone 8 models' release date in India is September 29, as part of the second phase of release. As for the iPhone 8 price in the US, the 64GB and 256GB variants of the smaller model will be $699 and $849, respectively, and the iPhone 8 Plus will cost $799 and $949 for the 64GB and 256GB variants.
iPhone X With Face ID, Bezel-Less Design Launched; Coming to India on November 3
iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus specifications & featuresThe iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus offer incremental improvements over the last year's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models. They very much retain the same form factor and design, but there are a few noticeable changes including new colour options – Silver, Space Gray, and Gold Finish, improved display, 25 percent louder speakers, as well as glass front and back. Both the new iPhone models also support Qi wireless inductive charging, allowing people charge the iPhone without having to plug in a cable again, Phil Schiller, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Marketing said.
Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are powered by A11 Bionic SoC six-core processors and improved GPU, which is 30 percent more efficient than the GPUs in last year's models. The new SoC and GPU are able to perform complex tasks such as video encoding at much faster rate.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus price in India will start at Rs. 64,000, and release date is September 29
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus also come with improved cameras, Apple said, adding that photos now have better detail, texture even as the iPhone 8 continues to have 12-megapixel camera, and the iPhone 8 Plus a duo of 12-megapixel camera sensors. Among other new capabilities, both the new iPhone models can shoot 1080p videos in 240 frames per second.
A lot is riding on the success of these iPhone models, especially in the wake of aggressive innovation and progress shown by Android smartphone makers such as Xiaomi and OnePlus. Both the companies are increasingly trickling down iPhone's best selling features to their phones at only a portion of the price. Samsung, too, has improved its software and camera modules significantly over the years.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus features include a glass and metal body, dual rear cameras, and A11 Bionic chip
“The iPhone is the most important product Apple creates. It directly represents around two-thirds of Apple's revenue — the precise amount varies by season. In addition, iPhone technology is widely used in the iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV, and as Apple sells more iPhones it creates up-sell opportunities. The iPhone is Apple's most visible brand now because iPod sales have declines and the Mac has never enjoyed remotely the same volume,” Ian Fogg, an analyst at IHS Markit told Gadgets 360.
Even as Apple executives bolted on stage with much excitement about the company's new products, several analysts and potential buyers of the iPhone expressed little enthusiasm about the announcements, having learned much of the details about the upcoming products over the weekend thanks to a huge leak that appeared to be from within the company. Apple executives on the stage didn't acknowledge the leaks.
